Sol y Luna
Cafe-RestaurantCafé Restaurant Sol y Luna began its history in Copacabana at the shores of Lake Titicaca (at that time called Café B ar Sol y Luna). The name was born from the famous islands in that lake Isla de Sol (Island of the Sun) and Isla de la Luna (Island of the Moon).
I started the bar with my friend Dino in June 1999 and we ran it together for almost half a year until he went back home to Australia.
In May 2001 I opened the second Sol y Luna with a Bolivian business partner, in the center of La Paz (Café bar Sol y Luna La Paz back then). Copacabana is a nice place but after a while it became very small and the constant traveling up and down drove me nuts, so in April 2004 I closed the Sol y Luna in Copacabana, bought out my business partner and ran the bar in La Paz by myself.
In August 2005 Sol y Luna opened a kitchen and became a fully functioning restaurant with a high quality international menu. We changed our name from Cafe Bar Sol y Luna into Café Restaurant Sol y Luna from that moment on.
On New Years Eve 2005 the place was extended with a new big restaurant area and lounge room.
A year later we opened our second bar downstairs. This we turned now into our very nice and cozy non smoking area. Well used by people who don't want our nice food spoiled by the nasty smell of cigarettes.
